About Providence, Divine Action and the Church

In this blog, Terry J. Wright posts thoughts and shares research on the Christian doctrine of providence. This doctrine testifies to God’s provision for all things through creation’s high priest, the man Christ Jesus. However, the precise meaning and manner of this provision is a perpetually open question, and this blog is a forum for discussion of the many issues relating to providence and the place of the Church within God’s action.

SCM Press Book Sale at Church House Bookshop

This is another one of those posts where the title says it all, really. The sale can be found here.

Of particular note is Barth's Dogmatics in Outline (preface by Colin Gunton) going for £2.00; the New SCM Dictionary of Christian Spirtuality, reduced from £60 to £11; Stanley Hauerwas's commentary on Matthew (in the SCM Theological Commentary on the Bible series) for £3.00; Mike Higton's Difficult Gospel: The Theology of Rowan Williams for £1.50; and, um, The Gospel According to Cannon and Ball (£3.00).

There are some real bargains here. I picked up six books for £20, including postage. Do have a look at the list. (It's when I post these kind of things that I wish I worked on commission!)
