It’s been out a while, but I’ve just read Adam McHugh’s Introverts in the Church: Finding Our Place in an Extroverted Culture (Downers Grove, IL: IVP, 2009). McHugh shows that
introverts need not feel out of place in the local church and provides a number
of tips on how to thrive in an often-extroverted environment. Of particular
interest to me were the chapter on introversion and community, and the two
chapters on leading as an introvert. So if you’re someone who’d much rather discuss
your faith one-on-one, or someone who prefers reflective silence to endless
chorus-singing, do give McHugh’s book a read. It might prove to be a
survival guide!
